Happy Halloween! I will admit that this is my LEAST favorite of the holidays! (see my previous post Happy Fall)My children will confirm this. When they were of trick or treating age, I am somewhat embarrassed to admit, I would say to them "look in your closet and see what you can come up with." They were VERY creative! Now in fairness, we were on the poor side. My husband was in school and working and I had a home business, so that was part of it. To this day I do not know why I dislike Halloween so much!
Having said all of that, I say to y'all Happy Fall-oween!
What do boots have to do with home styling? Well, nothing...we are talking flooring! There are so many option to choose from. Wood, cork, carpet, vinyl, and tile to name a few. The trend for 2017 is terra cotta tile! What? I know! Picture it in a beautiful white kitchen. Just the touch of warmth needed.
I love quirky, whimsical and creative flooring along with a dark rich wood. What is your preference? Let me hear from you!
Wall treatments...what's your opinion? Paint, wallpaper? I love a little creativity on the wall. Be it a feature wall of a coordinating color or wallpaper. There, I said it! I'm a wallpaper fan. But not just any wallpaper and PLEASE no wall borders!
In our new master we have a focal wall with grass cloth and I love it! It adds a touch of color and texture to the space that is just lovely. I also adore stripes painted on the wall, bold or subtle. The wonderful option with this is that you can simply repaint when you are tired of it. Wallpaper requires a little bit more of a committed relationship. Manufacturers have created some wonderful "easier to remove" products, that I have yet try.
Home Staging is probably a term you are very familiar with. It has been around for over 40 years. FORTY years! I know!! It is absolutely an important part of selling a home. It can, among other things sell your home more quickly, secure a better price AND it is a system that gives the seller a jump start on packing. Packing for a move is THE time to declutter and purge. That is, of course if you have purchased a home. (see my previous post on Our Moving Method)
I do home staging consultations onsite and online. If I can be of assistance, please contact me. I would love help you!
Do you update your curb appeal each season? What does that look like for you?
I do like to change things up each season. Change or add a wreath, seasonal foliage, door mat and more. This can be difficult if you live in an area that experiences severe weather. Of course you must keep this in mind when decorating outdoors, but change things up! I believe it can add a touch of fun, whimsy, beauty, whatever look you are going for. Enjoy every season we are given!
What is your most difficult design challenge? For many it is choosing a paint color for others it is furniture placement. What stops you in your tracks?
Well, I am here to help! Submit a question and I will give you my best advise or you can purchase my book "Put that Chair where the Sun Don't Shine and other decorating tips" to get the answer to this and other questions. Style On!!
Lighting is such a vital aspect of decorating a space. But how do you choose the perfect light? Ask yourself the following questions:
How is the room used?
Am I performing a task?
How do I want the space to feel?
Is there sufficient natural light?
Keep in mind that you may need to layer your lighting; overhead, lamps and task specific.
Kitchens need both task and ambient lighting as do dining rooms. A dimmer switch gives the dining room the option of overhead and ambient. Sconces on a dimmer switch on either side of a hutch or sideboard adds additional feeling and mood.
Bedrooms , generally, have overhead as well as table or floor lamps. Again this gives the space layered, multi use lighting..
Go, take a look at each space in your home or office and see the light!
Happy October! Fall is here. The air is a bit crisper, the leaves have turned beautiful shades of gold, orange and red. Sweaters are a welcomed friend. What is your favorite thing about fall?
I will go on record as a Halloween hater. Don't like it! Never have, never will. My children will tell you that their costumes consisted of whatever they could put together. I just had this issue with "Don't talk to strangers. Don't take anything from a stranger...oh, except on Halloween. Then its okay." Whatev....my kids are grown with kids of their own. Some love it, some endure it. Whatever your preference, happy fall!
